OPINION: Cambridge residents 'shafted' over rapid transit plan

After
reading the article on rapid transit, I am totally disgusted by the way
the region thinks that Cambridge residents should pay the same tax
increase as Kitchener and Waterloo residents.
The article states that
for every $50 million in costs, taxes would be increased by 1.1 per
cent. So why is Cambridge required to pay the same?
We are getting
rapid buses for a cost of $80 million, so our increase should only be
on this amount. Rail in Kitchener and Waterloo costs $710 million, so
they should have to pay an increase for the cost of the rail system.
Only fair, right?
We in Cambridge are getting shafted again. I
agree we should have an increase but I think it is outrageous that we
have to help pay for something we are not getting.
Pay for what
you get and nothing more, would be the right thing, but as is the norm
with this regional government the best goes to Kitchener and Waterloo
and we in Cambridge have to pay for it.
The people running the
region seem to think they are doing a good job, but if they put
themselves in Cambridge's shoes for once, maybe, just maybe, they'll
see why Cambridge residents are angry with their decision. Try looking
from the outside in, instead of the inside out.
